Imagination Generation: Reconnecting Children and Nature

The mission statement of the grassroots campaign, IMAGINATION GENERATION, is to create media that entertains while instructs using the most innovative technology. This media can be used in a myriad of educational opportunities including classroom and family time. Our goal is to stimulate the imagination and inspire children to play in nature. The result of this creative grassroots effort will generate unrestrained imagination, a sense of responsibility and stewardship along with meaningful memories and many more benefits.
IMAGINATION GENERATION's vision is to awaken the creative life of children by bringing Magic in the Forest into their front rooms, thus provoking their desire to connect with the natural world.
IMAGINATION GENERATION's Goals and Solutions:
1. Combine the resources of story point media, creator of nature-oriented ditigal cinema with the Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association, a hands on environmental education entity, to provide a well-rounded experience which will incubate and develop the next generation of stewards of our forests.
2. Provide families the opportunity to experience "Nature-Play" at home through the use of social networking, online educational materials and movies that inspire.
3. Create a sense of wonder and responsibility for the natural world.
4. Promote the "natural education" of special needs children through our work in the Adventure Zone. We are using the forest to create hands-on play that is geared to their particular challenges.
4. To attract partners to join and support us in our mission to INSPIRE and EDUCATE.
Background:
story point media is nearing completion of a powerful film entitled "Magic in the Forest". This film was written and produced to address today's youth and their alarming growth of apathy towards nature. "Magic in the Forest" tackles this issue head on while providing entertainment and awe inspiring special effects. The writer, director and producer, Jon Menick of story point media, was profoundly affected by the insightful words of Richard Louvin his book "Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder". Combining live action with animation against the backdrop of the amazing Pisgah National Forest, story point media's dedication to producing and distributing inspirational, nature-oriented media is clear. From the passion of Jon's creative brain and his team of dedicated innovators, the vision of IMAGINATION GENERATION was born.

Another strong indication of story point media's commitment to the children and nature movement is the partnership with the Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association (CFIA) on the "Magic in the Forest" project. This nonprofit organization, CFIA, with access to the Pisgah National Forest and campgrounds over five states, adds the hands-on educational component so important to completing the mission. This unique pairing of story point media and CFIA on the "Magic in the Forest" project will enable IMAGINATION GENERATION to bring the sights, sounds and stories of Western North Carolina outdoors to the forefront of countless children worldwide through the use of film and other media tools. IMAGINATION GENERATION, through its brillant positioning and partnerships, will assist in taking the National Movement to the next level.

"If you go with long-term significance, my pick for the top story of not only 2009 but also of the 21st Century is the pandemic of Nature Deficit Disorder, a term so aptly coined by Richard Louv in his best-selling outdoor book, Last Child in the Woods...."
— Bill Schneider, NewWest.Net
“Concerns about long-term consequences—affecting emotional well-being, physical health, learning abilities, environmental consciousness—have spawned a national movement to ‘leave no child inside.’ In recent months, it has been the focus of Capitol Hill hearings, state legislative action, grassroots projects, a U.S. Forest Service initiative to get more children into the woods and a national effort to promote a ‘green hour’ in each day.”
— Washington Post, June 2007
“The movement to reconnect children to the natural world has arisen quickly, spontaneously, and across the usual social, political, and economic dividing lines.”
Orion magazine, March/April 2007
